Company Wayne McGregor toured their production FAR, across India, between November – December, 2017. To compliment this tour, the British Council hosted a 3-day workshop in Lighting Design and Operation Skills, at the Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts in Bengaluru. The workshop was delivered by UK lighting design expert Michael Mannion.
The workshop covered areas such as:
- Lighting, its physical properties, controlled lighting
- Lighting design physical elements of design
- Plotting cues
- Use of colour
UK Trainer: Michael Mannion
Michael has over 25 years of lighting design experience. He has produced designs for theatre and film, and specialises in designing for dance productions. He has had numerous commissions throughout Britain, Europe, Australia and South Africa. His work has spanned designs for touring companies, site-specifics and installations. Michael has had long-running collaborative relationships with Rambert Dance Company, Phoenix Dance Company, Javier De Frutos, Balbir Singh, Yael Flexer, Carol Brown, Riccardo Buscarini (Place prize winner 2014), Marina Collard, Zoi Dimitriou, Smallbones Dance Company (Paul Douglas) and Athina Vahla.
Michael designed the re-opening event at the Royal Festival Hall, which took over the whole building, with performances in all the newly refurbished spaces, and as part of the Cultural Olympiad in 2012. He has run lighting master classes for the British Council in 9 countries. Michael has a Masters degree in Architectural Lighting (University College London) and a Bachelors degree in Engineering (Leicester University).
