On 1st February 2017, two of the world's most famous percussionists, Trilok Gurtu from India, and Scotland's Evelyn Glennie, were brought together in a one-off performance at Glasgow's Celtic Connections festival, an annual folk, roots and world music event that celebrates Celtic music and its connections to cultures from across the globe.

The special collaboration, titled The Rhythm in Me, was commissioned to mark the 70th anniversary of Indian independence, and consisted of partly live-improvised and partly reworked material by Gurtu and Glennie.

The pair devised the set over Skype, and rehearsed together only one day before the concert. We were lucky enough to catch up with the artists backstage following this unforgettable performance, to find out how they came to work together and hear more about their work as musicians.
